John was born in Adelaide, and for his first 3 years lived in Cummins on the Eyre Peninsula.    His family returned to Adelaide and settled in Prospect.  John attended Adelaide Boys High School where he joined the Interact Club when it was initially sponsored by the Rotary Club of Adelaide.

Throughout his career he has worked in the Financial Services industry, initially with Elders Trustee (studying Accounting) then commenced as a self- employed Insurance Agent with AMP in Adelaide in 1977 and in Port Pirie between 1985 and 1995 before returning to Adelaide.  This role has evolved into a Financial Planning practice based on Fullarton Road.

During his career, he has been an active member of the major financial adviser associations including:

·   The Association of Financial Advisers (AFA)  - formerly the Life Underwriters  Association and in 2009 was a National Finalist - AFA Adviser of the Year.

·   The Financial Planning Association and holds the Certified Financial Planning designation.

·   Qualifying and Life Member of MDRT  - The Premier Association of Financial Professionals® (formerly known as the Million Dollar Round Table), where he  was the South Australian Chair between 2004 and 2009, and the Australian Chair (2010 – 2012).

In 1971, Rotaract was started in District 250 by the Rotary Club of Edwardstown and John became a member and held Club Board positions of Director, Vice President and President and was the Conference Chair in 1978.   At District level he was the Membership Chair in 1975-76, and later was on the District RITSE (Rotaract International Team Study Exchange) Committee which organised the first 2 exchanges with New Zealand and India.

Whilst living in Port Pirie, he maintained his community service as a member of Apex.

As a member of the Rotary Club of Adelaide Light since 2000, he has held the position of Treasurer (2 consecutive years), Sergeant for 2 separate years, President Elect – Club Administration, Club Visioning  Facilitator and Club President.    In 2011 he was nominated to attend the Rotary Future Leaders and Rotary International Institute Conferences in Brisbane.    As District Governor Nominee in 2012/13, john also held the position of Assistant Governor – Group 1.

John’s wife Julie was a Rotary Exchange Student to Belem Para in Brazil in 1971 and later also joined the Rotaract Club of Edwardstown and also held Board Positions including Club President.

John and Julie have 2 beautiful daughters   -  Megan who is an Organisational Psychologist who lives and works in Brisbane and Lisa who is a Speech Pathologist who lives and works in London. John and Julie enjoy gardening, golf and travel and are keen supporters of the Adelaide Crows.
