Jane was born and brought up in Scotland UK.  She is the eldest of four girls and has been lucky to be a part of a large extended family.  Jane’s background is in nursing and it was during her work as a nurse that she met her husband David.  Jane and David have two sons that she is extremely proud of.  Her sons have married two wonderful women and Jane and David are now the proud grandparents of five grandchildren.
Family has always been important to Jane and she remains very close to her sisters.  Jane has two sisters in Perth WA and one in Vancouver.  Following the death of her father Jane’s mother joined them in Whyalla.  Thankfully with the advancement of technology Jane is able to continue the close ties with her family both here and abroad.
Jane and David immigrated to Australia in 1991 with their two school age boys.  At this time, it was problematic for Jane to carry on working as a nurse in the hospital and she focused her 20 years of nursing skills into working in the community.  She worked with Domiciliary Care as the Day Centre Coordinator.  During these years, Jane went back to studying and completed her Diploma in Management in Community Services.  Her next position was with Whyalla Aged Care where she started-up and grew the community aged care services from an initial 20 packages to 45 packages ensuring our older community have the choice to remain in their own homes rather than going into residential care.  Jane continued to study at this time and completed her diploma in Training and Assessment.  After 7 years with Whyalla aged Care Jane went on to work with TAFE.  Before retiring, last year, Jane worked with the Department of Communities and Social Inclusion, Disability SA as a case manager
Joining the Rotary Club of Whyalla in 2008 was a natural progression for Jane.  She has been involved in volunteering most of her life.  Other community involvement includes being the second longest serving executive member of Whyalla Enterprising Women Committee, Jane is also a founding member and secretary of Whyalla Suicide Prevention Network Committee.
Jane has always been an active member of the Rotary Club of Whyalla and has held many leadership roles she was the president in 2012-2013.  At district level, she is a member of the RLI faculty and is currently the Assistant Governor for Group 8.
As mentioned before Jane’s passion is her grandchildren and her family.  Jane also enjoys a round of Golf; crossword puzzles, catching up with friends and special holidays.
